When their 50-city Idols Live tour starts Sunday at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore., they’ll expand the songs and the crowd, without worries about who goes home at the end of the night. “I didn’t know how you’d fit 10 people in one show, but it flows so smoothly,” says Danny Gokey. “And the energy of 10,00 Continue reading
Warrior Beat Q&A with Miah OstrowskiAsked if he prefers basketball or football, Miah said: “Basketball is my love, but I enjoy football. I thought I was going to play basketball here. If they told me to come out — and I had coach Mack’s approval — I’d come out right away. But I have to focus on football first.” (HA) Asked if he prefers Kobe or Lebron, Miah said: “I’d go with Lebron. He might be able to create more for his teammates than Kobe. He can drive, see over defenders. Kobe is a closer, but he has better players around Continue reading
Stop the presses?UH is debating whether to follow the lead of three Big Ten schools that will stop printing sports media guides. Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin cited cost-cutting as the reason behind the move. The guides are used mostly as recruiting tools. A UH official said the athletic department would save about $80,000 if it eliminated the hard copies of the guides. If it decided to stop printing guides, it would make the information available at its Web site, where the "guides" could be downloaded b Continue reading

A Trip to ParadiseIf you ask me how did I see Boracay? These photos will definitely explain how. It was not just a trip to an island. It was a trip to paradise that only Philippines can offer. Bear with me. It was my first. The sand, as what Jasmine Trias said, pinong-pino. The beach was as clear as crystal. The party was unfamiliarly different. The people were warm. The trip was uber fun. I want more. Continue reading
Idol TalkI’m sure everyone watches American Idol . It is probably the most-watched show since it caters to all ages and to all kinds of people. I wouldn’t see why people wouldn’t want to watch this show anyway. It is current, entertaining, interesting, and enjoyable. Besides the talent this show finds, I love the judges and Ryan Seacrest! For me, they add flavor to the show! I’ve been a fan since season 3, when Jasmine Trias and Camile Velasco were part of the Top 12. Since then, I’ve always looked forw Continue reading
American Idol: Oh how I’ll miss you!AI8 made history last night. American voters finally told the Idol powers-that-be just where they could stick their flashy favoritism. Kris’ reply to the grand gesture? A look of utter surprise, nervous joy and the words, “Adam deserves this. I’m sorry.” THAT IS WHY I LOVE THIS SHOW. And that is why he won. Talent? Sure. Good looks? Absolutely. Likeable, warm-hearted, humility? Now that’s Kris Allen! Feels good to feel this good, doesn’t it? Still, most Americans went to bed shocked. I k Continue reading

The Most ‘WTF?’ Contestants In ‘American Idol’ HistorySanjaya Malakar Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Over the course of eight stupendous seasons, "American Idol" has showcased some of the best undiscovered singers in the country and a few who, well, were probably better left that way. There have been plenty of highs and just as many lows. So, in celebration of Wednesday night's (May 20) Lambert vs. Allen finale , we're taking a look back at some of those who came before them — and were quickly forgotten. Because while there have Continue reading
TelecommutingTelecommuting or working from home is a trend many companies embrace these days, especially with the pressure of decreasing that office real estate square footage that translates into precious and expensive dollars. With the advent of technology that allows both the office PC and telephone environments to be effectively replicated at a remote location, with the help of the ubiquituous and cheap internet of course, many companies these days are seriously considering a fraction of their workforce Continue reading
American Idol 8: The Road To An Idol (part 3)This year, Danny Gokey finished third in the 8th season of American Idol (surprising a lot of people who were sure he was going to be in this week’s finale)… so how did his fellow #3’s turn out? Season 1 (2002) – Nikki McKibbin’ s career path has been a bit… erratic. It took 5 years for her first album to come out, she’s been through the reality treadmill, and wound up in televised rehab in 2008. She’s now doing Idol alumni tours. Season 2 (2003) – Kimberly Locke has two albums, 11 cha Continue reading
Idol Talk: The Third Place Curse?by Vera H-C Chan The duel. The face-off. The toe-to-toe, mano a mano singfest. “ American Idol ” is finally down to two. But before we leave Top 3 week behind, let’s examine the lore of the Third Place Curse. Coming in second isn’t the bummer as it used to be. While the runner-up isn’t an understudy who steps up in the event of laryngitis or rehab, more than a handful have gotten decent stage work and sitcom guest roles (Idolheaded blog has an impressive round-up of almost-rans thro Continue reading
