Rotoprofessor’s 2-Start Pitchers: Week 14Written by Eric Stashin the Rotoprofessor It’s time to look at the potential two-start options for the upcoming fantasy week. If I have someone rated as a three, four or five-star option, they are someone I would definitely use. A two-star option is someone who is borderline, but I’d strongly lean against it unless I have no other options. The one-star options are an absolutely not scenario. So, with that said, let’s take a look at the players available to you this week: 5-Sta Continue reading 2-Start Pitchers: Week 14It’s time to look at the potential two-start options for the upcoming fantasy week. Game Recaps (7/2/09)The Mariners have signed one of the top players on the international market, Dominican OF Guillermo Pimentel, who has plus power and is a left-handed hitter. You heard it hear in whatever order you heard it here. Portland 3 (SD - 7), Tacoma 5 LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (5.91, W) pitched five and a third innings, giving up a run on eight hits, a walk, and three Ks. I have heard that his velocity is improving, but performances such as this one do not inspire a great deal of confidence in me. Continue reading
Holy smoke! This building beside ours was on fire late Tuesday afternoon. Fire trucks clogged the roads leading to Julia Vargas Avenue causing traffic and irritation among commuters during the rush hour. I joined the rest of the spectators (and chismosos) trooping to nearby Benpres parking lot and took photos with my camera phone. I really should own a DSLR given my penchant for capturing live actions, structures and quirky people like those inside the gyms running on ellipticals , the woman and her child Continue reading
CNN BACKS MILITARY COUP IN HONDURASPeople who are interested in following what is happening in Honduras may like to check out Eva Golinger's blog Postcards From the Revolution . Golinger is the author of the 2006 book The Chavez Code , which exposed the role of the US in the 2002 coup that briefly overthrew the democratically elected Venezuelan government of Hugo Chavez. Golinger is blogging everyday on the constantly changing situation in Honduras. She is currently living in Caracas in Venezuela. On June 28, the elected Pr Continue reading
Honduras Defies U.S. Requests: "Israel And Taiwan Have Said They Support Us, And I Have Faith That Other Governments Will Follow"Rueters reports that "the Honduran administration has so far rebuffed any attempts to bring back" President Manuel Zelaya. Interim leader Roberto Micheletti argued the ouster of Zelaya was legal as it was ordered by the Supreme Court to stop Zelaya from trying to extend the presidential four-year term-limit. They say Zelaya was himself acting illegally. One of several clauses that cannot be legally altered in the Honduran constitution limits presidents to a single, 4-year term, and the Congress Continue reading
The "Perfect Idiot's" Guide to Coups and DemocracyAlvaro Vargas Llosa is famous for exactly two things: 1) being the son of a brilliant Peruvian novelist, and 2) co-writing a book once about how poor people are stupid. Naturally this qualifies him a thousand times over to be the authentic voice of the Honduran coup in the U.S. media, and so he is. The New York Times ran some crap piece of his on Tuesday, explaining how exiled president Mel Zelaya actually plotted his own violent overthrow, and in today's Washington Post op-ed, we learn how Continue reading

Gibbs: Obama spoke up about Honduras so that people wouldn’t think we were behind the coupLike Wieseltier said, “He is determined to be the un-ugly American,” whether that means agonizing silence while Iranians fight street battles with the Basij or noisy outrage when the Honduran government ejects a would-be Chavez in its midst. It sure does make The One popular internationally, as PIPA’s new world poll confirms, but whether it advances America’s interests is a separate (and more important) question. In fact, we’re well past the “noisy outrage” stage on this one. We’re actually int Continue reading
Fawcett last Of The Iconic Pinup GirlsThe picture says it all. Curtis D. Tucker was thrilled to receive a Farrah Fawcett poster for his 14th birthday in 1976. The shot of 14-year-old Curtis D. Tucker shows him unrolling one of his birthday treasures in 1976, mouth slightly agape and eyes intensely focused on the gift. The present was one he had fervently requested from his parents and a hot item for many a young, red-blooded male during that bicentennial year: a poster of Farrah Fawcett (then known as Farrah Fawcett-Majors). “I was Continue reading

Maidana Shocks Ortiz In “Thriller”Saturday night up and coming prospect Victor Ortiz was put into the spotlight. After Chris John dropped out of the headlining bout with an illness, Ortiz’s bout against tough Marcos Maidana was promoted to the main event. Ortiz has been billed as the future of Golden Boy Promotions, but the future may not begin now. In a potential fight of the year candidate, five knockdowns were exchanged until Ortiz decided he could take no more. In a most prophetic choice of entrance music, Ortiz came out t Continue reading

And The Darker SideLast Thursday in Ayacucho was a day of rather intense conversation, culminating in me contracting another annoying stomach upset, potentially from any number of sources, which flattened any plans I might have had for Friday. In the early afternoon I visited the Museo de la Memoria, or ANFASEP as it is more commonly known, which is dedicated to the victims of the conflict of the 1980s and 1990s. None of the reported titles of the parent organisation quite match with the acronym: it is at least t Continue reading
