What Public Relations Firms offerBy Amy Nutt Anyone who is familiar with the world of celebrities have heard of public relations firms aka PR companies, but just what does such a company provide? Well, to answer that, one has to understand the term "public relations". As one would suspect, the term implies a reciprocal relationship between two or more parties. Often, one of the parties engaged is the "public". Via a second party, information is exchanged to said public. This information is processed and provided in a manner Continue reading Gordon in the morning: Talking about Paris Hilton like she's realHold the front page - or, rather, replace the blocky top bit at the top of Bizarre with a single story: Gordon Smart has a world exclusive: PARIS HILTON has dumped her rocker lover BENJI MADDEN after nine months, I can exclusively reveal. Paris Hilton was going out with someone from a Blink 182 tribute band? Really? And now she isn't? Blimey. You could understand Gordon poking this onto the page to pad it out, but treating it as such a major story makes it look like he's given up caring about S Continue reading

NFL Suicide: Week 11 With the NFL forcing their Thursday Night games down our throat, I guess I should push the NFL Suicide pool forward a day. I wanted to give anyone who still had the Bengals left plenty of time to choose them before they kick off in Pittsburgh Thursday night. It seems like it is going to be a brutal beatdown. It’s no secret the Bengals are bad this year. Now it sounds like half their offense line will miss the game. Talk about not ready for primetime. Let’s see who’s been primetime in our Suic Continue reading
Biggest Loser: Families - Week Nine Aired 11-18-08 The episode began with the aftermath of Amy’s stunning decision to go against the rest of her Blue Team and vote off Brady. She explained in an interview segment that she did it for herself. She voted off the person with the 2nd highest percent of weight loss because she’s the person with THE highest percent. Michelle (the person Amy saved from elimination) assured her that the Black Team would have her back now. Ed summed up what everyone watching this show was thinking, Continue reading
Online Celebrities or Mainstream Celebrities: Who Should You Cast? Mindy Kaling or Michael Buckley? Jessica Alba or Jessica Rose? Of course it helps to have well-known faces attached to your web series, but from what world should you draw them: the mainstream media, or the online video community? (Because the 6th thing we learned at NewTeeVee Live is that there’s definitely still a divide.) If you’re not looking to be a flash in the pan viral hit, but rather a long-term success, you might reconsider the involvement of the truly famous. While having a known na Continue reading
How to be an Editor’s Favorite Author I went to an SCBWI conference this last weekend. It was one of the better conferences I have been to in a while, including some of the out of state stints I’ve done. Friday night they had a mix and mingle thing for published authors, the editor, agent, and illustrator director they brought in for the conference. I love mingling with authors. These are my people. Just thinking about them makes me smile. I spent a wonderful time talking to Amy Finnigan, Mette Ivie Harrison, Rick Walton, Sydney Hu Continue reading
Do Something Smart and Unique: Earth-Friendly Wedding Decorations It might seem wasteful to you to decorate and use all of these cut flowers in order to make a big room beautiful for one night. Are there any environmentally friendly options? Change the setting The easiest way to keep from using cut flowers and dried petals is to have your reception and ceremony outside. This sounds like trouble in the making, but it’s a lot easier than it sounds. If you have a large space in someone’s yard or in a park(with everyone’s permission), you can set up a large ten Continue reading
blast----part-1-of-1..Blast from the Past..I'm now 37, married with a kid on the way. But recently on face book two women contacted me from my past. Ironically, they both contacted me in the same week, but they have no contact with each other. Even though I didn’t respond to their contacts, it brought back memories of a great night from our past..I was dating Amy for a few months. Amy was tall, long legs, beautiful smile, and in a very experimental sexual stage, all and all a great girl. Actually, we were more like Continue reading
Poll Time! Best Jaw Rip?!Ever since I posted that awesome jaw rip clip from Hatchet on YouTube as part of my Top 10 Film Decapitations, i've gotten a lot of comments on there comparing that scene to the one in Mirrors. Some seem to prefer that jaw rip over Hatchets while others strongly disagree. I know where I stand, but where do you stand? Take a look at both of these badass jaw rip scenes and leave a comment with which one you prefer! And try not to let Amy Smart's ass cloud your judgement! HATCHET MIRRORS I'm p Continue reading
The positive side of the economic collapse for media This morning I posted a few words to my Twitter account about PC Magazine’s decision to cease print publication… My Twitter posts also get fed automatically to my Facebook account, where Tom Regan, a smart and talented journalist and media thinker I know, posted what I thought was a profound comment: “I have a feeling that with the (Christian Science) Monitor and now PC Mag going in the online direction, it’s just the start of a tsunami over the next two years. The current economic situa Continue reading
Movie Review: Gone Baby GoneI was surprised to learn that Dennis Lehane is a Dorchester native because the dialogue in the film adaptations of his books reads like it was written by a non-local enamored with Boston stereotypes. As in Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone made me wince and cringe as the actors “wikkid pissa’d” their way through a klutzy third-grade-level script. Hollywood needs to take a lesson fron George Clooney in The Perfect Storm and realize that a bad accent causes more distractive harm than good and stresses Continue reading
almost 3 after christmas, stupid lady My younger daughter is coming out of that “really cute no matter what she does” phase and is turning instead into a very articulate little smart ass. Just like her sister did. It’s actually still very, very cute, but now she is starting to get punished more and more as she disobeys. Anyway, I haven’t yet highlighted her antics really, because so far it’s always been the same “cute 2 year old” stuff. Just the usual singing songs, running around, making kissy faces, laughing at the dog, playin Continue reading
Things to do in Columbus::November 19th Edition I think it's winter. It certainly is cold outside. It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only a week away! As I write this, I am watching yesterday's Good Morning Columbus, which I DVRd because they are having a segment on buying local gifts and it features Amy from Little Alouette and Daniel from Skreened, and they are talking about school delays!! Already! At this rate, I think your kiddos will be in school throughout June, since a lot of them missed a week when the power was out. Ev Continue reading

Lost Genre: Mad Dash So, A Mad Dash is easily identified- it’s a comedy with a cast full of famous actors, celebrities, and comedians who are all frantically chasing after some prize. There are a ton of zany, incoherent situations manufactured to get as many laughs as possible. The plot is the least concern and only needs to find a way to connect all the silly set pieces. You’ll usually find plenty of B-list actors, athletes, and a foreign actor or two. It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World This is the cream of the crop of Continue reading
TV Briefing: Rashida, Poehler, Costanza, Runway What we know about this 2009 Office spinoff: Rashida Jones has been confirmed by NBC as having joined the cast, along with Amy Poehler, and Human Giant’s Aziz Ansari, Rashida plays a nurse named Ann Logan, the series is considered a Poehler vehicle, and exec producers Greg Daniels and Mike Schur are Office alums but otherwise this is no real spinoff. First shooting is set for early next year, series launch would come around spring, posssibly fall. Knowing the foundation of the cast early on - Continue reading
